Cyber Security has never been as important as it is in today’s digital world. With a digital workforce and learning environment, we need to take precautions to protect our information. These are our top tips for Cyber Security from our Cyber Security team:
- Use our secure Wi-Fi network, eduroam. If you aren’t already connected to our FREE, FAST, and SECURE eduroam Wi-Fi, we recommend connecting to eduroam now. Alternatively, learn how to use public Wi-Fi networks securely.
- Locking your PC when walking away from it. Learn more ways to keep your confidential data secure.
- Avoid sharing confidential information on storage devices that you could lose. Just save yourself the worry and use OneDrive. Learn how to access your OneDrive for staff and students.
- Use encrypted storage devices if OneDrive does not meet your needs.
- Keep your password secure and update it regularly. Tell no one your password! Learn how to keep your password secure.
- Using a multi-step login (Multi-Factor Authentication) process is also a great way to ensure the safety of your account. This adds another layer of protection in the event that your password is compromised.
- Keep your software up-to-date. Updates are a great mechanism to protect your PC against a virus that has not matured enough to break through those barriers because the new updates fix known vulnerabilities. Learn how to keep your software up-to-date.
- Learn what you can do to protect yourself while browsing the web. Educate yourself on how to browse the web securely.
- Don’t be fooled into giving away any personal information on or offline. Learn how to avoid a social engineering attack.
- Avoid suspicious emails! If you receive what appears to be a dodgy email, don’t give away your personal information as tempting as it may be. An email that you are not 100% sure is legitimate asking you to click a link or to enter personal details is more than likely an unwelcomed attack on the University. You are the best defence against email phishing campaigns and data breaches at the University.
- When in doubt, call it out! Contact the IT Service Centre if you are unsure about any of the above.
